Royse City, TX – May 12, 2025 – The Royse City High School (RCHS) track and field program has concluded an extraordinary 2025 season, shattering numerous school records and celebrating outstanding individual achievements. This year's success underscores the dedication and talent within the program, with several athletes reaching elite levels of competition.
A remarkable highlight of the season was the breaking of multiple long-standing school records. The 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Meka Nnawuihe, Ethan Poku, John Abrama, and Elijah Vickers blazed to a new school record of 41.92 seconds. Adding to the excitement, all four members of this talented squad are set to return in 2026. The 4x400 meter relay team of Courtney Chancellor, Nash Jones, Elijah Vickers, and Adric Evans also etched their names in the record books with a time of 3:20.07, breaking a record that had stood for six years. This team collectively earned an impressive 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal, qualifying for both Area and Regional meets.
Several individual athletes also delivered exceptional performances throughout the season:
Senior Tyson Timmons set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 138 feet, 6 inches, marking a significant achievement in his final high school season.
Junior Markeith Fleming had a stellar year, setting new school records in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.39 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (38.92 seconds). His consistent excellence earned him 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal, making him a double district champion.
Senior Jammel Ward concluded his remarkable high school career with a season for the ages. A decorated athlete with career totals of 23 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 4 district championships, and 5 area championships, Ward added to his accolades this year by becoming a Double District Champion and Double Area Champion in both the long jump and high jump. He also set a new school record in the high jump at 6 feet, 11 inches, became a Regional Champion in the long jump, and earned a silver medal at the UIL Class 6A State Championships in the long jump. Ward's outstanding achievements have earned him a TTFCA All-State selection and he is likely to be selected to the THSCA Track & Field S.E.T.
On the girls' side, junior Kira Bowman had an exceptional season in the pole vault. She captured the UIL 6A State Championship title in the pole vault and earned a Regional Bronze Medal and Area and District Championship titles in the same event. Bowman also secured silver medals in the 400-meter dash at both the Area and District meets. Her remarkable talent has earned her TTFCA All-State honors and she is currently ranked 6th nationally in the pole vault with a personal best and new school record of 13 feet, 6 inches.
Adding to the list of new school records for the Lady Bulldogs were the 4x100 meter relay team of JaNai Jenkins, Abigael Achuo, Amayah Canady, and Kira Bowman, who clocked in at 48.93 seconds. Sophomore Callie Godinez also made her mark, setting new school records in the 3200 meters (11:39.20) and the 1600 meters (5:23.40).
The Royse City community celebrates the outstanding achievements of these talented athletes and looks forward to their continued success. The future of the RCHS track and field program is undoubtedly bright.
