PRINCIPAL OF HERNDON ELEMENTARY

Ms. Jamila Thomas has been named as the new principal of Harry Herndon Elementary. Joining RCISD from Richardson ISD where she is currently a principal, Ms. Thomas brings 20 years of diverse educational experience, including roles as an area academic facilitator and multiple campus leadership positions at both elementary and secondary levels. Known as a passionate and results-driven leader with a strong instructional background and a focus on student success, Ms. Thomas' expertise in areas like PLCs and MTSS, along with her extensive leadership training, is expected to significantly benefit Harry Herndon Elementary and the district.

PRINCIPAL OF BOBBY SUMMERS MIDDLE SCHOOL

Mr. Carlos Soliz has been approved by the board as the new principal of Bobby Summers Middle School! Currently an Associate Principal at Royse City High School, Mr. Soliz brings a wealth of experience, including prior assistant principal roles at both the high school and middle school levels in RCISD and Mesquite ISD. With a background as a math and social studies teacher and coach, Mr. Soliz is known for building strong relationships and fostering a positive culture. Described as a calm, confident, and compassionate leader who believes in students, his commitment to high expectations and family collaboration will undoubtedly continue the tradition of excellence at Bobby Summers Middle School. CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

The RCISD board has appointed April Soderquist as its new Chief Communications Officer. Bringing extensive experience in school public relations and strategic communications, Soderquist is recognized for her ability to foster community engagement, strengthen district messaging, and promote public education through transparent communication. Over her 26-year career as a teacher, administrator, and communications leader, she has built strong relationships and demonstrated expertise in crisis communication, brand development, and community outreach. In this new role, Soderquist will lead all district communications and serve as a key advisor to the superintendent, focusing on authentic storytelling to keep stakeholders informed and proud. Her leadership is expected to be instrumental in advancing the district's mission and vision.
