Skills USA Students

Royse City High School Career andTechnical Education Students participated in Skills USA District 5 competition Jan. 15-17, sending 29 students to state!

Skills Advisor Lisa Davis explains why she spends so much time preparing her students for Skills USA.  “Skills USA prepares students for workplace skills by competing at a high level.  Winning a Skills USA competition requires meeting exacting industry standards.  Competing gives students experience with meeting deadlines, teamwork, and communication and presentation skills.

Sherri Duggan, RCHS AV teacher and Skills coach, agrees.  “My students push themselves out of their comfort zones and learn what it takes to give a professional presentation.  My AV students also learn how to plan, work together, and meet deadlines for timed video competitions.  The pressures involved in competition really help students grow, and they come out of Skills more confident and ready to face real world job expectations."
