As a result of the 89th Texas Legislative session, House Bill 1481 was passed and signed into law this summer. This means that all public school students in Texas, including RCISD students, will be expected to store their cell phones securely out of sight during school hours. Specifically, the law states, “a student is prohibited from using a personal communication device while on school property during the school day.”

Students will be allowed to use their cell phones before and after school; they may not have their phones in use or visible after the first bell, and before the last bell of the day.

As we navigate the implementation of this recently passed legislation (HB 1481) we would like to thank our parents for your continued partnership. We encourage you to talk to your students in the coming weeks as summer winds down, so they are better prepared to be without their communication device during the school day. Como resultado de la 89a sesión legislativa de Texas, el proyecto de ley 1481 fue aprobado y promulgado este verano.
