Passion Project Day

This week, an electrifying energy filled the halls of Ouida Baley Middle School as students and staff celebrated their 4th Annual Passion Project Day. This unique event, which began four years ago from a collaborative brainstorming session between students and Principal Angelee Morales, transforms a regular school day into a vibrant showcase of shared interests and talents.

Passion Project Day is a testament to Baley Middle School's commitment to fostering a holistic learning environment. The process begins with students and teachers submitting ideas for activities they are passionate about. These diverse lists are then merged, resulting in a rich tapestry of options for the entire school community. Teachers volunteer to lead sessions, and students sign up for the projects that pique their curiosity.

"It's a day of fun for teachers and students to share some of their talents and build relationships," said Principalpal Morales, highlighting the event's dual benefits of skill-sharing and community building.

This year's lineup showcased an impressive array of passions. From altruistic endeavors to artistic explorations and practical life skills, there was truly something for everyone. Some of the standout projects included:

This year's lineup showcased an impressive array of passions, ranging from altruistic endeavors to artistic explorations and practical life skills. Participants engaged in creating sunshine baskets to bring cheer to others, while also sharpening their minds with chess and board games. Culinary creativity flourished with both cake decorating: nailed it pinterest style and the delightful exploration of culinary presentation with creating mini charcuterie.

In a more hands-on effort, students teamed up to begin renovating the girls' locker room with some fresh paint and hand-painted murals. Artistic expression thrived through various art projects, and valuable life skills were taught in crochet and paracord bracelets for survival. Students also embraced colorful self-expression through scrapbooking. Another project highlight was the team who came together to make improvements and updates to the staff restrooms.

The success of Passion Project Day truly underscores Ouida Baley Middle School's innovative approach to education, demonstrating how learning extends beyond traditional academics and thrives when fueled by genuine interest and shared enthusiasm. This aligns seamlessly with the school and district’s mission as a Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) National Showcase District, emphasizing the profound importance of building relationships and fostering an environment where students feel seen, valued, and connected. Students and staff alike left the day feeling inspired, connected, and enriched by the experience, a direct reflection of the positive impact of CKH principles in action.
