RCISD is proud to announce Dr. Mariah Bailey as the 2026-27 Principal of Sara Moss Elementary School
Dr. Mariah Bailey is a leader whose academic excellence is matched only by her dedication to student success and teacher growth. Please join us in welcoming the new principal of Sara Moss Elementary, Dr. Mariah Bailey.
Dr. Bailey is a successful completer of our Aspiring Principal Program. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University, where she also obtained her Superintendent and Principal certifications. With two Master’s degrees, one in Curriculum and Instruction and another in Educational Leadership, she possesses a profound understanding of how to drive academic achievement.
In her current role as Assistant Principal, Dr. Bailey has consistently delivered measurable results. She has trained teachers in the PLC process and data-driven instruction, leading to consistent student growth and enhanced teacher effectiveness. She created operational PBIS systems that substantially decreased behavioral issues in common areas and facilitated the "Process Champions" team to strengthen school culture through Capturing Kids' Hearts.
She designed and implemented a Student Ambassador Program to foster leadership among our students and ensure a warm welcome for every new family.
Dr. Bailey has shared her expertise at the state level at the TEPSA Summer Conference, and frequently leads professional development on topics ranging from math vertical alignment to student leadership.
Known for building high levels of trust with parents and stakeholders, Dr. Mariah Bailey ensures that the partnership between home and school remains strong. She leads with clarity, precision, and heart. We are incredibly fortunate to have her at the helm as she begins this next chapter.

It. Is. Time.
RCISD will be open tomorrow (Friday, January 30th) and on a regular schedule. Our teams have spent the day reassessing conditions and preparing, and we are excited to announce that we are ready to return!
Thank you for your patience and support during the winter weather this week. It’s going to be a fantastic Friday together as we welcome everyone back!

Be sure to also check out our campus Facebook pages to stay directly connected with your student’s learning community.

While today’s sunshine was a welcome sight, road conditions across our area remain unsafe in several rural locations, as well as the majority of our campus parking lots and bus drop-off areas. After careful assessment of all impacted areas, Royse City ISD will be closed tomorrow (1/29/26).
Our decision is based on concerns for bus routes that include secondary roads (neighborhood streets, bridges, and shaded areas) where melting has been minimal, as well as the safety of our student and parent drivers who may encounter icy or hazardous conditions during the morning commute and drop-off. Bus lanes and parking lots remain areas that have yet to thaw. Tomorrow’s forecast should provide us with the opportunity to address these spaces, as well as additional time for some of our less-traveled roadways to clear of ice.
As with the previous snow days this week, UIL district after-school activities for Thursday will be communicated by the athletics department in coordination with other districts in the area. We are looking forward to cheering on our Bulldogs very soon!
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as conditions continue to improve. We will keep families informed, and look forward to having students back on campuses as soon as it is safe to do so.

RCISD Update: Monitoring the Conditions for Thursday
Happy Wednesday, RCISD Family! We are all TEAM SUNSHINE today as we continue to monitor conditions and watch the weather unfold. In addition to working with local law enforcement, our RCISD Driving Team is assessing the safety of our roads, neighborhood streets, and parking lots. Although we are seeing progress on our main routes, we are waiting to see what Mother Nature will do to thaw the remaining spaces left under Winter Storm Fern’s ice to allow for safe transportation.
In the meantime, our Operations Team is doing a fantastic job of making sure campuses are safe and ready for everyone to return. Join us in sending them a shout-out by posting a comment on our social media update!
To RCPD, Fate PD, and our RCISD Driving and Operations Teams…you are our winter weather heroes! We appreciate you and your dedication to keep our kids and staff safe.
Stay tuned for updates. We will provide a decision regarding Thursday's status by 6:00 p.m.

Royse City ISD proudly serves seventy-seven square miles, and our team has been actively monitoring road conditions throughout the district while coordinating with local agencies to guide our decision-making.
Due to continued frozen roadways and unsafe parking lot conditions, all campuses and district offices will remain closed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. UIL district after-school activities for Wednesday will be communicated by the athletics department in coordination with other districts in the area.
We will let families know in the coming weeks if it is necessary to make up any of our missed days.
We are thankful for our emergency operations team and staff who continue working behind the scenes to ensure our campuses are ready.
It has been snow much fun seeing photos of your winter adventures shared on our Facebook page. We miss our students and look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as conditions allow for a safe return to school.
