ROYSE CITY, TX – The Royse City ISD Athletic Department, in partnership with Dave Campbell's Texas Football and Optimum, is proud to announce that Sharon Newton has been recognized as a Community Connector. This award celebrates individuals who are making a difference in their community.
Sharon Newton, who has been with Royse City High School since 2009, currently serves as the District Athletic Secretary. Her dedication to the community and the Athletics Department is a source of pride for Royse City. When asked what makes the community special to her, Newton shared, "With the rapid growth of Royse City, it's exciting to see new opportunities, businesses, and families moving in all while continuing to hold onto that small town charm and close-knit community spirit".
Head Coach Drew Colvin specifically highlighted Sharon's contributions. "She goes above and beyond for our coaches and kids!". Colvin noted that Newton ensures "everything is taken care of and that everyone is in the know around athletics". He added that any event to celebrate the kids or involve parents and the community "is made special by her" and that her "planning and decorating makes it all feel so important".
The Royse City Bulldogs are known for their deep connection to the community. Coach Colvin emphasized the importance of this relationship, telling his team to "represent the right way, always". The team is actively involved in the community, giving Teacher of the Week awards, providing free car washes for staff, reading to elementary students, and helping with North Texas Food Bank drives.
Optimum is a proud founder of the Community Connector Award, which honors committed students, teachers, and parents who support their community and help to make it a better place. Their partnership with Dave Campbell's Texas Football enabled the creation of this award to celebrate these "community difference makers year-round”.
