RCISD Safety Update: We’ll see you Friday!

It. Is. Time.

RCISD will be open tomorrow (Friday, January 30th) and on a regular schedule. Our teams have spent the day reassessing conditions and preparing, and we are excited to announce that we are ready to return!

Thank you for your patience and support during the winter weather this week. It’s going to be a fantastic Friday together as we welcome everyone back!

RCISD will return to school 1/30/26.
Winter Storm Fern has been a great reminder of the importance of staying connected. In addition to our RCISD messaging system, we thought this was a good time to re-share our social media accounts and how to turn on notifications for each platform. Follow the arrows to make sure you never miss a post.

Be sure to also check out our campus Facebook pages to stay directly connected with your student’s learning community.

RCISD Social Media Platforms: Never Miss a Notification

No School Thursday January 29th

While today’s sunshine was a welcome sight, road conditions across our area remain unsafe in several rural locations, as well as the majority of our campus parking lots and bus drop-off areas. After careful assessment of all impacted areas, Royse City ISD will be closed tomorrow (1/29/26).

Our decision is based on concerns for bus routes that include secondary roads (neighborhood streets, bridges, and shaded areas) where melting has been minimal, as well as the safety of our student and parent drivers who may encounter icy or hazardous conditions during the morning commute and drop-off. Bus lanes and parking lots remain areas that have yet to thaw. Tomorrow’s forecast should provide us with the opportunity to address these spaces, as well as additional time for some of our less-traveled roadways to clear of ice.

As with the previous snow days this week, UIL district after-school activities for Thursday will be communicated by the athletics department in coordination with other districts in the area. We are looking forward to cheering on our Bulldogs very soon!

The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as conditions continue to improve. We will keep families informed, and look forward to having students back on campuses as soon as it is safe to do so.

RCISD Update: Monitoring the Conditions for Thursday

Happy Wednesday, RCISD Family! We are all TEAM SUNSHINE today as we continue to monitor conditions and watch the weather unfold. In addition to working with local law enforcement, our RCISD Driving Team is assessing the safety of our roads, neighborhood streets, and parking lots. Although we are seeing progress on our main routes, we are waiting to see what Mother Nature will do to thaw the remaining spaces left under Winter Storm Fern’s ice to allow for safe transportation.

In the meantime, our Operations Team is doing a fantastic job of making sure campuses are safe and ready for everyone to return. Join us in sending them a shout-out by posting a comment on our social media update!

To RCPD, Fate PD, and our RCISD Driving and Operations Teams…you are our winter weather heroes! We appreciate you and your dedication to keep our kids and staff safe.

Stay tuned for updates. We will provide a decision regarding Thursday's status by 6:00 p.m.

RCISD Update: Monitoring the Conditions for Thursday
RCISD Safety Update: School Closure for Wednesday

Royse City ISD proudly serves seventy-seven square miles, and our team has been actively monitoring road conditions throughout the district while coordinating with local agencies to guide our decision-making.

Due to continued frozen roadways and unsafe parking lot conditions, all campuses and district offices will remain closed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. UIL district after-school activities for Wednesday will be communicated by the athletics department in coordination with other districts in the area.

We will let families know in the coming weeks if it is necessary to make up any of our missed days.

We are thankful for our emergency operations team and staff who continue working behind the scenes to ensure our campuses are ready.

It has been snow much fun seeing photos of your winter adventures shared on our Facebook page. We miss our students and look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as conditions allow for a safe return to school.

Valentine Day Party Flyer

Dear Parents and Guardians of Paula Walker Elementary,
We are thrilled to announce that our annual Science Fair Night is approaching! This year, we want to bring the wonders of the natural world directly to our students by creating a "Living Habitats" exhibit, and we need your help to make it a success.
We are looking for members of our school community who own exotic animals—from reptiles and amphibians to unique birds or small mammals—and would be interested in showcasing them for our students.
Our Goal:
The focus of this year's exhibit is to move beyond just seeing the animals. We want students to learn about:
Natural Habitats: Where do these animals come from in the wild?
Specialized Needs: What do they require (temperature, diet, environment) to live a healthy life?
Conservation: Why is it important to protect the ecosystems they call home?

Event Details
Date: January 22nd, 2026
Time: 5pm - 6pm
Location: Paula Walker Elementary Cafeteria

Safety and Participation
The safety of our students and the well-being of your animals are our top priorities. We ask that all participating owners:
Provide a secure, appropriate enclosure for the animal during the event.
Remain with their animal at all times to answer questions and ensure safe interactions.
Be comfortable speaking briefly with small groups of students about their animal’s care.

Interested in participating? If you have a unique companion you’d like to share, please fill out the brief interest form at https://forms.gle/y6XfNFidbgvotNGTA or contact Mr. Robinson at tony.robinson@rcisd.org by Friday January 16th .
Please include the type of animal you have and any specific space or electrical requirements (such as heat lamps) you might need.
We look forward to a night of discovery and learning with you and your amazing animals!
Best regards,
Mr. Robinson
