Boundary Zones Approved:
The 2020-2021 elementary and middle school boundary zones were approved by the school board on Monday, November 11. The board considered administrative recommendations and all parent feedback in approving the new boundary zones. Theses will not go into place until August of 2020.Background Info:
Rapid student enrollment growth and the opening of the district’s second middle school requires RCISD to develop new boundary zones for all elementary and middle schools beginning in August of 2020. Remember that this plan includes the transition of our intermediate schools into elementaries. These decisions were part of the Master Facilities Plan approved in 2016 and designed to accommodate our rapid enrollment growth.
FAQ's
-
When does this rezoning go into effect?
August of 2020.
-
Can my student be grandfathered in to stay at his/her current school?
Unfortunately, no. We are not offering any grandfathering options for this rezoning due to rapid current and expected growth. The only exception to this rule is Rustic Meadows for those that wish to stay at Scott Elementary. This was a guarantee made to that neighborhood back in 2015. Transportation will not be offered for those who choose this option.
-
How long will these new zones last?
Upon board approval these new zones will not change until RCISD builds additional elementary schools to accommodate growth. The drafted zone take into account the planned housing developments that we know of in anticipation of future enrollment figures.
-
What about special programs?
The location of special programs has not been decided at this time. We will communicate those as soon as possible.
-
Will EDP be offered at all elementary schools?
Yes. Ruth Cherry Elementary and Herndon Elementary will have the same after school care programs as the others.
Why must we rezone?
-
Growth. Student enrollment growth is trending above 6% year-to-year in Royse City ISD. This adds up to hundreds of new students moving into our schools. In 2013, Royse City ISD was close to 5,000 students. Currently, our schools are home to more than 6,600 students and we are anticipated to enroll 10,000 total students by 2028.
In May of 2018, the community approved a bond referendum that allowed for the construction of a new middle school in Fate, Texas. Now called Bobby Summers Middle School, the campus will become our second middle school and will serve students grades 6-8. This creates the need for two middle school boundary zones for the first time in district history. At the same time, the district's two intermediate schools (Herndon and Cherry) will transition to elementary schools. This creates the need for six elementary boundary zones.
Three elementary schools will feed into each middle school in a feeder pattern. Click here to read more about how the Master Facilities Plan prepared RCISD for these changes.
