Academically, in-person learning will provide students with the same high-quality learning opportunities that Royse City ISD always strives to provide. Physically, students will notice various changes throughout their school day which are designed for their safety and the safety of our staff. Click on the below graphic to read more on in-person school plans for 2020-2021. Please note that this guidance is subject to change at the local, state or national level. We will update our plans accordingly and communicate with our families thoroughly.  

The In-Person Learning scenario will also include a blended instructional platform that involves the use of Google Classroom (2-12) and Seesaw (preK-1) for specific instructional areas.  This will ensure that students are familiar with the virtual platform in the event we have to quickly switch to an all-virtual setting as a result of a short-term sporadic district closure.

Please note that in the event of a sporadic school closure, all affected students will move to online instruction. Key aspects of “Total Virtual Instruction” may include:

• A mixture of pre-recorded videos and real-time virtual lessons
• Regular morning meetings
• This approach will follow an adjusted but aligned scope and sequence
• Virtual office hours and district-wide online tutoring
• Expansion to personalized interventions for small groups and individual students
• In this approach, parents act minimally as the “learning coach”
• Consistent software utilized teacher to teacher, with Google Classroom as the platform for grades 2-12 and Seesaw for grades PreK-1st.

Royse City ISD's online learning plan follows the same scope and sequence as students in the classroom through a blend of remote synchronous and remote asynchronous learning. Teachers will provide instruction, learning resources, and support with a mix of pre-recorded videos and real-time virtual lessons. Students will receive data driven instruction, personalized enrichment and intervention when needed. Students will show their face on the screen to engage with teachers virtually and will be expected to participate in district/state assessments to document student learning and growth as required by the state. For younger students, parents/guardians are required to be heavily invested in facilitating daily learning. A parent orientation will be required by RCISD for entry into the online learning program. 

Please note that the requirements for student engagement with their teacher is much higher than the requirements students/families experienced during the spring of 2020 during our short-term virtual environment. In order to provide students who are in virtual school a comparable experience to what students in a face-to-face environment are receiving, the amount of time and number of assignments will be significantly increased for the 2020-2021 school year.

Remote Synchronous Instruction 
Two-way, real-time/live, virtual instruction between teachers and students when students are not on campus. Students are expected to show their face on the screen and be actively engaged in learning with their teacher.  

Remote Asynchronous Instruction
Instruction that does not require having the instructor and student engaged at the same time. The student is required to be engaged daily with work and the teacher is required to give feedback.
