Bonnie Fay Davis

  • Bonnie Fay Mason Davis was born in Daingerfield, Texas on May 29, 1914, and graduated Valedictorian from Rochester High School in west Texas on May, 1931. Bonnie Fay received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Methodist University on June 4, 1935. In the fall of 1935, Mrs. Davis accepted her first teaching assignment at Addison School in Dallas County. The school building still stands today and is currently “The Magic Time Machine” restaurant. Mrs. Davis taught at Addison for eight years, and then taught at the Fate School for three years. After a nine year break in service, Mrs. Davis joined the Royse City School staff in 1956 as an elementary teacher, then later a counselor. While working at Royse City ISD, Mrs. Davis continued her education at East Texas State Teachers College receiving her Master of Education on August 24, 1959 and her counselor certification on August 1, 1967.

    After 19 years at Royse City ISD, Mrs. Davis tendered her resignation in May, 1975. Mrs. Davis has remained an activist for schools and teachers. A charter member of the Rockwall Area Retired Teachers Association, Bonnie presently serves as Treasurer. In 1988, Mrs. Davis was elected to serve as Trustee on the Royse City ISD School Board and continued her service until 1998. Serving on the board with several of her ex-students, Mrs. Davis’ presence kept all the board members on their best behavior. Mrs. Davis’ classroom experience brought a higher level of understanding to the Boardroom.

Mary Davis

  • Mary Virginia Nesbitt Davis was born in Farmersville, Texas on January 2, 1917. Mary Virginia graduated from Leonard High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma on July 29, 1938. She began her teaching career at Lone Oak ISD in 1938 where she taught three years. After a thirteen year break in her career, Mrs. Davis signed a contract to teach at Royse City ISD in 1942 for a salary of $2,565 a year. Mrs. Davis continued her education at East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce and received her Master of Education Degree on August 24, 1956.

    Mrs. Davis spent 34 years impacting the life of each child she taught at Royse City. After a total of 37 years in education, Mrs. Davis retired on June 4, 1986. During the fall of 1986, Mrs. Davis returned to Royse City Elementary as a substitute teacher and continued working as a substitute until 1999. Mrs. Davis remains active with teacher organizations. She is a chapter member of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1973, and is a member of the Rockwall Area Retired Teacher Association where she serves as Secretary for the 2000-01 term.

    In Mary Davis’ letter of retirement, she expressed her sincere appreciation for being allowed to be a part of the Royse City School faculty. We wish to thank you, Mary Davis, for making a difference at Royse City ISD.
