More than 100 community members gathered on Thursday, March 7 at the future site of Bobby Summers Middle School for a ceremonial groundbreaking. Opening in August 2020, the school will become the district’s second middle school serving students in grades 6-8. At the same tip of its opening, the district’s intermediate campuses will become elementary schools. This grade configuration shift will spread Pk-4 enrollment over 6 schools and reduce the school-to-school transitions for children.
Bobby Summers was announced as the school’s namesake in January after a community survey and committee. Mr. Summers is a lifelong resident of Royse City ISD, a graduate of RCHS and is touted as the proudest Bulldog Fan. He has served as school board member since 1996 and is involved in numerous community organizations.
This school is the major component of the successful May 2018 Bond Election. For continued updates on this project and others, please visit www.rcisd.org/bond2018.
