Shop Classes to Host Auction

Friday, 21 Nov 2008

On December 15, 2008 from 6-7pm, the shop classes will hold an auction of items that have been built by our students at the middle school cafeteria.  The items will include a picnic table, cedar porch swing, a metal fire pit with a grill, several Adirondack chairs, and a metal firewood rack.  We will also have some other smaller items such as birdhouses.

As for the raffle, each student will be selling raffle tickets for the chance to win our main project, which is a children’s playhouse.  The playhouse measures 6 ft x 8ft and will have an upstairs “loft.”  A porch will be attached as well.  The tickets are $3.00 each and the proceeds will go to our life skills class here at RCMS.  The raffle will be drawn on the night of the auction and you don’t have to be present to win.  This is a great and easy way to earn some money for our kids.

On Friday, October 24th, NHJS students attended a leadership retreat after school.  They participated in various teambuilding activities and took some time to plan some things they wish to accomplish as a group this school year.  In the above picture, Taylyn Fischer makes her way through  “The Maze” blindfolded as her teammates tell her which way to go.

In an assembly on Friday 17 October 2008, the 7th grade students of Royse City Middle School were introduced to a very important guest, Specialist Rena Harrison of the U.S. Army Charlie Company 101st DSTB.   Specialist Harrison is the daughter of RCMS assistant principal Tina Taylor. Specialist Harrison stopped by to say hello while home on an 18 day leave from post in Bagram Afghanistan where she has been stationed for the past 8 months.

Specialist Harrison brought a message of gratitude from herself and the 800 men and women with whom she serves.  These 7th grade students had written letters to Ms. Taylor’s daughter and her fellow soldiers last year in their 6th grade technology classes.

Specialist Harrison then fielded questions from the audience of 330 7th grade students.  The students learned about the training and daily duties during her first 3 years in the Army.  The students were eager to find out about the type of food available in Afghanistan and how everything and everyone gets there.  Specialist Harrison explained to the students that even though she never saw herself as a soldier while she was in school, she is very proud of and happy with her experiences in the U.S. Army.
