Royse City Host Annual Speech & Debate InvitationalFriday, 17 Oct 2008 Over the weekend of September 27th, Royse City High School held their annual Speech and Debate Tournament fundraiser. Attending this competition were over 170 students from 17 various area schools. The tournament fundraiser offered many competitive events for these students to learn from and practice in, including: Cross-Examination and Lincoln Douglass Debate, Original Oratory, Poetry, Prose, and Informative and Persuasive speaking. Everything ran smoothly thanks to the co-operation of both the participants and the RCHS students who helped run the fundraiser. The Speech and Debate Team wishes to thank all the parents and volunteers who helped keep the tournament running throughout the day, as well as thank the alumni Royse City debaters and judges who gave of their time and expertise. All the money raised will go toward travel expenses as the RCHS Speech and Debate Team attends tournaments around the state, as well as for student scholarships. Royse City will travel to their first tournament of the year at Mexia High School on October 25th, 2008. Superior Cheerleaders!Friday, 25 Jul 2008 Royse City Varsity cheerleaders rocked the competition at the U.C.A. cheer camp this past week. The cheerleaders attended the camp at the University of North Texas and dominated all divisions of competition. As a varsity squad, Royse City won the championship trophy in the home dance category, the cheer category, and received a Superior rating on all cheers, chants and dances learned at camp. But the accolades don’t stop there. Perhaps the most treasured honor given to the squad was the Leadership Award. This award was voted on by the other squads at camp and represents the character and class of this group of young ladies. We also had four girls, Kambria Buentello, Autumn Landers, Lesley Latta, and Janis Mapps earn top honors as All Star cheerleaders. Our varsity captain, Taylor Aycox, was asked to consider applying for a U.C.A. position upon graduation from RCHS. Congratulations to all the girls! We’re looking forward to an awesome school year cheering on our BULLDOGS!!
